THE FIELD, NOT THE CLASSROOM

Forward deployed work, in three frames

FDE work happens where the customer is: discovery on site, build in production, handover on paper the team keeps.

OUR APPROACH

Not just a demo: engineering judgment.

Forward Deployed Engineering joins customer discovery, software delivery and production ownership. The curriculum follows that work from the first conversation through handover.

Frequently asked questions

What is Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE)?

Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) is a software engineering discipline in which engineers are embedded at the customer's edge: they discover the problem directly, build the solution, ship it to production and operate it through handover, instead of working from an internal roadmap. Our glossary carries a short definition of Forward Deployed Engineer.

Is the content on this site really free?

Yes. All 48 Foundations lessons, 24 practice tasks, guides, the roadmap, the glossary and the 30-question readiness quiz are readable without an account. Membership is optional and only stores your progress and quiz history.

Can I get certified today?

Planned sittings are announced: Level 1 on 27 Dec 2026 and 27 Feb 2027, Level 2 on 3 Jan 2027 and 3 Mar 2027, all at 13:00 London time. The three levels are priced at 495, 595 and 695 USD. Booking opens after the live checkout is verified; join the notify list to hear when booking opens.

How do I prepare for the FDE certification exams?

Study the Foundations curriculum against the domains in the proposed blueprint, self-review practice work against the published criteria, and use the readiness quiz to find weak areas. The Practitioner capstone briefs with self-review rubrics cover the next level.
